Episode 23- Paul Nolan

In this episode of The Emerald Athlete, I’m joined by Irish horse trainer Paul Nolan.

We chat about how Paul first got involved in horse racing and the journey that led him to training at the highest level. He shares insight into the realities of the sport, including the gap between smaller yards and the major operations, and how trainers try to compete at the very top.

With Cheltenham always on the horizon, we also discuss the whispers around Irish and English horses closing the gap, the pressure and excitement that builds heading into the festival, and what race days really feel like from a trainer’s perspective.

Paul also gives a look into the daily setup at his yard, speaks about some of his favourite horses and race meetings over the years, and explains how trainers know when they might have a special horse on their hands.

A fascinating insight into the world of elite horse racing from one of Ireland’s most respected trainers.
